Additionally, her stage credits include the well-known Broadway plays "Angels in America" and "God of Carnage.. Marcia Gay Harden was born in San Diego, California on 14 August 1959. Her parents were Beverly the housewife and Thad who was an officer in the US Navy. She is also the mother of three children and a brother. The family often moved because of her father's work as diplomat, meaning that they were scattered across the world , including countries such as Germany, Japan, and Greece. Harden was a student at Surrattsville High School in Clinton after which she settled in Maryland. In 1980, she enrolled at the University of Texas at Austin where she earned her bachelor's degree in theatre. Harden was admitted to NYU's Tisch School of the Arts in 1988 in order to receive her MFA.
